A shopping trolley with a basket between the two lateral uprights (3 and 3') in which the basket is designed to be pivotable toward one of the uprights (3) in order to gain a clearance, when required, between uprights (3 and 3') which allows the trolley to be loaded also with bulky, long and also relatively wide goods. To enlarge the available clearance between the lateral uprights the basket can be collapsed and is designed as a flat assembly (8), which can be moved and pivoted by using a specially designed system. In a preferred embodiment, the pivoting system consists of a pair of wire double-loops (20 and 20') and sliding bushings (15, 15', 17 and 17') located so as to be able to roll therein for guiding and/or supporting the collapsible and pivotable parts of the basket.
