The metal guide wire (1) is freely arranged in the jacket (2) and has, at its distal end, a head (3) which is rounded at (6) and has a chamfer (4). A metal flagellum (7) extends the probe beyond the head (3). At its rear end, the wire (1) is connected to an operating member (8) via a damping spring (9). By pulling the member (8), the head (3) is forced to become inclined to a greater or lesser extent as a function of the magnitude of the force exerted. By rotating the member (8), the wire (1) and the head (3) are made to rotate at will. The flagellum (7) forms a detector and indicates to the operator, on the radioscopic screen, the changes in direction and other obstacles which it encounters. The operator may then orient the head (3) and the flagellum (7) in the most favourable manner in order to make it easy to pass the obstacle (bend, bifurcation). <IMAGE>
