The invention relates to the field of composite materials comprising a solid polymer matrix and including a liquid finely dispersed within this matrix. The invention relates essentially to a process for the manufacture of such materials by polymerisation of a fine emulsion of a liquid of the water or alcohol type in a liquid phase based on styrene monomer in the presence of a surface-active agent which is a polystyrene-polyoxyalkylene block copolymer, at least half of the polyoxyalkylene units being oxyethylene units. The preferred surface-active agents within the scope of the invention are di- or triblock polystyrene-polyoxyethylene block copolymers. The materials obtained find an advantageous application as slow dispensers for volatile products, especially fragrances or insecticides.
