<p>PURPOSE:To control the pretilt angle of liquid crystal within the range of 0-60 deg. by applying photosensitive resin to the surface of a substrate to form one orientation layer and then executing the patterning and rubbing processing of the photosensitive resin. CONSTITUTION:The photosensitive resin is applied to the surface of the substrate 1 to form a photosensitive resin film 2. Over exposure through a photomask 3 is executed by UV to expose the resin coat and then over development is executed by using an exclusive developer, so that projections of the photosensitive resin coat 2 are formed on the surface of the substrate 1. In case of rubbing the projection-like surface of the coat 2 with cloth or the like in one direction, one side of the projection-like rugged pattern is scraped off more sharply then the other side and the projection-like rugged pattern has directivity. Although the projection-like rugged pattern is determined by the exposing and developing time and the total pressure of rubbing, the pretilt angle theta can be controlled within the range of 0-60 deg. by setting up the optimum conditions and liquid crystal 4 held by the projection-like rugged pattern is formed with uniform orientation of the whole display area.</p> |
