PURPOSE:To provide a glass composition containing a specific alkali or alkaline earth metal oxide, TiO2 and Ga2O3 at specific ratios, having excellent light- transmission and high refractive index and suitable for optical communication fiber of infrared range, etc. CONSTITUTION:The objective light-transmission glass composition is composed of (A) one or more oxides selected from oxides (R2O) of alkali metal (R) (Na, K or Cs) and oxides (R'O) of alkaline earth metal (R') (Ca, Sr or Ba), (B) TiO2 and (C) Ga2O3. The ratios (mol%) of the components of the composition are selected to fall within the range shown in the figure and forming a glass free from devitrified product. If necessary, the glass composition is used at an amount of >=90mol% and added with remaining part of one or more components selected from Li2O, BeO, MgO, Al2O3, GeO2, SnO2, Bi2O3, Sb2O5, TeO2, PbO and CdO.
