The invention relates to a machine for the treatment of vegetable stalks of fibrous materials. It will be used particularly in the textile industry for scutching the stalks of flax, hemp or other similar material. The treatment machine will make it possible to separate the textile fibres from the ligneous part of stalks 2 arranged longitudinally side by side, to form a continuous layer 3, and will comprise at least: - a set of scutching tools 4, which is equipped with scutching bars 5 consisting of an upper scutching drum 6 and a lower scutching drum 7, each set in rotation about its longitudinal axis in opposite directions, the layer 3 being passed through these, - means 8 for gripping the layer of stalks 3, making it possible to hold the stalks 2 in relation to the set of scutching tools 4 and to displace the layer from the entrance of the machine towards the exit in the direction, marked by A, substantially perpendicular to said stalks 2. Moreover, according to the present invention, the set of scutching tools 4 comprises at least three scutching bars B1, B2, B3 arranged helically on the periphery of the scutching drums 6 or 7 and distributed on either side of the layer of stalks 3, so that the latter, when it passes between the scutching drums 6, 7, is worked by the progressive impact-free penetration of the bars 5, B1, B2, B3 into the stalks 2 and in a continuous manner from the entrance 9 of the machine 1 towards the exit 10 from the latter. <IMAGE>
