PURPOSE:To improve reactivity of ring opening and to obtain a cured product small in shrinkage upon curing, by ring-opening a bicyclo or spiro orthoester compound in the presence of an acid halide and a specified compound. CONSTITUTION:A 2,6,7-trioxabicyclo[2,2,2]octane group-containing bicyclo orthoester compound and/or a spiro orthoester compound are reacted by ring opening at room temperature to 120 deg.C for several min to several hr in, optionally, a solvent (e.g., acetone) in the presence of an acid halide (e.g., trichloroacetyl chloride) and at least one compound selected from among quat. arsonium salts, organobismuth compounds, carbenium compounds and halides of metals of Groups II-IV of the periodic table (e.g., tetraphenylarsonium chloride).
