PURPOSE:To prevent performance lowering by setting the position of the bypass port of a rotary valve in a section in which a position where the partition thickness from the end of a suction port becomes 0.7 by the thickness ratio of a vane is made the lowest limit and a position where the chamber pressure becomes a third again as high as the suction pressure is made the highest limit. CONSTITUTION:The first bypass port 32 formed in the rotary valve 27 of a variable displacement type rotary compressor is set in a section in which a position where the partition thickness from the end of the first suction port 29 become 0.7 by the thickness ratio of a vane 18 is made the lowest limit and a position where the chamber pressure of a compressor 19 becomes approximately a third again as high as the suction pressure is made the highest limit. According to this, the seal properties when the vane 18 passes through between the first suction port 29 and the first bypass port 32 is never damaged and the gas quantity remaining in the first bypass port 32 as a dead space can be decreased and the lowering of the compressor performance can be prevented.
