PURPOSE:To lift up a pad without the need for a special drive means by lifting the pad from a disk so as to be parted automatically in interlocking with the operation of a head access mechanism where a head is moved to a position over the outermost circumference of the disk. CONSTITUTION:In applying power with a disk pack 1 loaded, a feeding screw 25 is driven to move a head carriage 15 via a tracing shaft 21, a magnetic head 9 is moved in the radial direction of the disk 3 to apply recording/ reproduction. During this time, when the head 9 is at the track region of the disk 3, the upper end of the actuator 7 for lifting up the pad is placed at a position a little lower than the tip of the pad base 8 and the disk 3 is depressed to the head 9 with a proper pressure. In moving the head 9 to the outer circumference of the disk 3, since the actuator 7 is pushed up by a slope of a slope chip 18, the pad 6 is moved upward and parted from the upper face of the disk 3 to release the depression onto the head 9.
