PURPOSE:To ensure the head low floating stability and the durability and reliability of a disk by forming a thin groove on the surface of the disk in spiral so as to exclude a foreign material and a sliding trash caused between the head and the disk. CONSTITUTION:The thin groove is formed on the disk 1 in spiral. The thin groove has a width to a degree not causing a hindrance in the recording/ reproduction and is a spiral groove having Rmax0.02-0.1mum, and the spiral thin groove is formed by pressing a contact roller 3 on the surface of the driven disk 1 via a polishing tape 2 and reciprocating the polishing tape 2 radially while being wound on a reel 5 by a motor 4 sequentially. Since the disk is driven in the spiral direction of the thin groove, a foreign material in the fine groove is moved toward the peripheral direction of the disk in the groove and excluded from the disk face without being left on the disk surface. Thus, the floating characteristic of the head is improved and the durability/reliability of the magnetic disk is improved.
