PURPOSE:To increase a control range of a fuel injection timing, by a method wherein an on-off valve situated in a suction port is opened in linkage with lowering of the plunger of a fuel injection pump, and fuel is sucked in a pressurizing chamber through the suction port. CONSTITUTION:A plunger 3 is rotatably and reciprocatively engaged internally of an engaging chamber 2 of a plunger barrel 1 of a fuel injection pump, and a pressurizing chamber 4 is formed between the inner end surface of a barrel 1 and the plunger. The pressurizing chamber 4 is connectable to a distribution passage 9, running to each injection valve, through a central hole 5 formed in the axis of the plunger 3, and a distribution port 8. In this case, a valve seat 10 is formed in a position situated facing an annular suction group 6 formed in the plunger 3 of the barrel 1, the small inner hole of the valve seat 10 forms a suction port 11 and a ball 12 serving as an on-off valve is contained in a large part 11a of the suction port 11. The ball 12 performs opening action during lowering of the plunger 3, and performs closing action during raising of the plunger. |
