PURPOSE:To succesively handle various stacked quantities of sheets of paper by making the distance between a big roller and a sheet separating claw part variable in the sheet feeder of a printer. CONSTITUTION: When stacked sheets of paper is thin, a claw part 3 is kept apart from a big roller 1, and the distance between the big roller 1 and the claw part 3 is reduced as the ream quantity gets thicker. Thus, by moving the position of the claw part 3 in accordance with the ream quantity, the rate of curvature of the part of the sheets of paper which comes into contact with the claw part is varied, to separate off and feed any stacked quantity of sheets of paper one sheet at a time without hindrance. Accordingly, various stacked quantities of sheets of paper can be handled.
