9 alpha ,10 alpha -Methyleneoestrenes of the general formula I <IMAGE> in which R<1> is a <IMAGE> group with X meaning a hydrogen atom, a CN radical, a straight-chain or branched alkyl or alkanoyl radical with 1-6 carbon atoms, R<2> is a hydrogen atom or a methyl group, R<3> is a hydrogen atom or an acyl radical with 1 to 10 carbon atoms, R<4> is a hydrogen atom, -(CH2)n-CH2Z, -CH=CH-(CH2)mZ or -C IDENTICAL C-Y with n = 0 to 5 and m = 1 to 4, where Z is the CN radical, a hydrogen atom or the OR<5> group with R<5> meaning a hydrogen atom, an alkyl or alkanoyl group with, in each case, 1 to 4 carbon atoms, and Y is a hydrogen, chlorine, fluorine, iodine or bromine atom, an alkyl, hydroxyalkyl, alkoxyalkyl or acyloxyalkyl group with, in each case, 1 to 4 carbon atoms in the alkyl or acyl radical, and, if X is a hydrogen atom or an alkyl radical, their addition salts with pharmaceutically suitable acids, are described. The compounds have antiprogestogenic and antiglucocorticoid effects.
