PURPOSE:To apply a header to a continuous form in a short-time and efficient way, by a method wherein characters previously converted to printing picture element alignment data are printed on folds of the same side of the continuous form as picture element alignments by a printer. CONSTITUTION:When a header composed of, for example, characters 'PR1', is to be applied to a continuous form 1, each of the characters is decomposed to picture elements of 5 X 7 dots. The dots in a first-line picture element alignment are printed on a first fold portion of the continuous form 1 as dot columns for seven lines. Next, the dots in a second line picture element alignment are printed on a third fold portion of the continuous form 1 as dot columns for seven lines. After that, in a similar way, the dots in picture element alignments from a third line to a seventh line are printed on the portion from a fifth fold to a thirteenth fold of the continuoue form 1 respectively as dot columns for seven lines. In this manner, when the continuous form is folded after being printed, the characters representing the content of various data printed on the continuous form are formed by the aforesaid picture element alignments as a header on the position of the folds.
