The tube (2a) to be drawn is grasped even before passage through the drawing die (1) by a procedure in which a driver part (6) on a rod (5) travels from the drawing carriage (4) through the drawing die to the opposite side, where it is driven a certain way into the end of the tube. By pressing cone-shaped depressions (7) into the tube wall, a positive joint is produced, giving rise to a joint of high tensile strength, which increases even further during passage through the drawing die due to the deformation of the tube wall. On the opposite side, the tensile strength can be further increased by a push-on sleeve (8) or by pressing jaws. This method eliminates the known push through tools and pointing tools. The driver part can also be designed as a screw with the correspondingly shaped pressing jaws, giving the possibility of separation after drawing by unscrewing it. <IMAGE>
