PURPOSE:To obtain the titled fiber giving highly crimped state in post-treatment step and having tenacity and elongation comparable to those of drawn yarn, by carrying out melt-spinning of a polyester setting the distance between the spinneret and the collection point, a yarn tension, a take-up speed and a single filament fineness within respective specific ranges, heat-treating the spun fiber and winding the product. CONSTITUTION:A polyester fiber is produced by a high-speed melt-spinning and taken off under a condition satisfying the formulas 0.04<=L/SS.D<=0.08, 5,000<=SS<=5,700, 1.0<=D<=3.0 and 1.0<=To<=1.5 wherein L(cm) is distance between the spinneret 1 and the collection point 3, SS(m/min) is speed of a take-up roller, D (de) is fineness of single fiber and To(g/d) is yarn tension) after the collection point 3. The product is heat-treated with a hot roller 5 for 0.01-0.06sec at constant length or under tension and wound on a bobbin.
