PURPOSE:The titled composition, consisting essentially of gelatin and capable of reducing dissolution rate by adding a specific additive and sustaining the release of a long period. CONSTITUTION:A gelatin pharmaceutical composition, containing gelatin as a principal constituent component and obtained by blending at east one additive selected from the group consisting of sodium carboxylmethyl cellulose, carrageenan, polyvinylpyrrolidone, chitosan and polyvinyl alcohol. The dissolution rate can be reduced and release can be sustained for a long period by blending the above-mentioned additive. Furthermore, an inert gas, e.g. air or nitrogen, or a substance, e.g. sesame oil, containing the inert gas can be filled as a filling content to decrease the specific gravity of the above-mentioned composition from that of the intragastric fluid, suspend the composition in the intragastric fluid and prolong the residence time in digestive tracts. Thereby the drug release can be sustained.
