The optical storage disc tracks are disposed so that alternate tracks are formed in surfaces which are inclined to a planar, imaginary reference surface at the same angular magnitude but in opposite directions. One set of surfaces is disposed at an angle (&thgr; ) whilst the second set of surfaces is disposed at an angle (-&thgr;) to the reference plane. Pref. the track-to-track spacing of 1.2 microns and the angular incline (&thgr;) is fifteen degrees of arc. This ensures that the imaged spot of light incident upon a track is reflected and scattered back in a cone of light which is mainly on one side of a plane.
