PURPOSE:To perform the feed of printing paper without generating the jamming of the printing paper, by allowing a printing head to retract from a printing region charged with the printing paper at the charging time of the printing paper. CONSTITUTION:A moving/charging control means 16 detects whether a printing head 11 is present in a printing region PDa on the basis of the detection signal from a printing head sensor 15a. When the printing head 11 is detected in the printing region PDa, a printing head driving means 12 is controlled to allow the printing head 11 to retract to the outside of the printing region PDa. When printing head 11 is absent in the printing region PDa, the moving/charging control means 16 controls a printing paper feed part 13a to feed printing paper Pa to the printing region PDa. Similarly, before the printing region PDb is charged with printing paper Pb, the printing head 11 is brought to a state absent in the printing region PDb to feed the printing paper Pb. Therefore, the feed space in front of a platen becomes wide to make it possible to prevent paper jamming.
