PURPOSE:To increase the processing speed of a programmable controller compared with a system where an input port is cyclically measured, by fetching the visual measurement data on a feature parameter from a picture input processing part and applying the arithmetic processing to said measurement data. CONSTITUTION:A picture input processing part 21 receives the video signals from a TV camera 30 and always performs a prescribed visual measurement operation to calculate a feature parameter of input pictures. An arithmetic processing part 28 decodes the user program written to a RAM 25 and performs the processing in response to the contents of instructions. If an instruction for visual measurement is indicated by the instruction contents, the visual measurement data on the feature parameter is fetched directly from the part 21 via a bus 22. The part 28 stars immediately the desired arithmetic processing.
