PURPOSE:To coat a required part with a coating liquid only by raising the front end part of a clipping and carrying means and lowering the rear end part and clipping and carrying a sheet in such state and lowering the front end part when the front end of the sheet is carried slightly ahead of the upper end face of a liquid coating means. CONSTITUTION:Carrying rolls 54 and 56 and a water coating roll 12 are rotated under such state that a plunger 78 is lowered and a plunger 80 is raised, and both side parts of the front end of an image receiving paper S are held between belts 74 and 76 to carry the paper S forward. When the front end of the image receiving paper S passes the top (the upper end face) of the water coating roll 12 by a prescribed extent, the plunger 80 is lowered to bring the image receiving paper S into contact with the upper face of the water coating roll 12. Carrying rolls 54 and 56 and the water coating roll 12 are rotated in such state to coat water stuck to the water coating roll 12 onto the lower face of the image receiving paper S. An image part F is included in a water coated part W, and the water coated part W is slightly wider than the image part F. Thus, water is coated on only the required part of the image receiving paper S.
