The invention serves to protect containers and pipes filled with liquid from damage due to frost or freezing. In this case, a plastic element which, depending on requirements, is solid or filled with gas is introduced into the container or pipe, which element absorbs the majority of the pressure, occurring when the liquid freezes, due to compression and thus relieves the pressure on the walls of the container or pipe in such a way that bursting or leakages are ruled out.
