PURPOSE:To save time and reduce miscopying by copying two originals on one sheet of transfer paper so that a binding margin is formed automatically by setting data on the arrangement of the originals and binding margin, the width of the binding margin, etc., before the copying operation. CONSTITUTION:The 1st original A is copied and then the 2nd original B begins to be copied; and an ADF device 22 conveys the original B onto an original platen so that the original is copied at a position B on transfer paper. In this case, the original B is conveyed by longer distance, so t2>t1, where t2 is the conveyance time of the original B and t1 is the conveyance time of the original A. When the original B is copied, the timing of the stopping of erasure 8 is so determined according to binding margin data so that a process of copying the original B is delayed by time t3. This time t3 is easily found from the size of the binding margin because the linear speed of a drum 5 is constant. Thus, a composite copy of A and B having the binding margin C at the overlapping part of erased parts is taken on one sheet of transfer paper.
