PURPOSE:To control the viscosity of ink to a stable state, by detecting the air stream of an ink particle flying part to control the addition quantity per a unit time of a diluent for controlling the viscosity of ink added to an ink recirculation route. CONSTITUTION:The ink particle injected from a nozzle 3 is subjected to deflection control by a deflection electrode 7 to be adhered to the material 9 to be recorded wound around a rotary cylinder 8. A rotary cylinder control unit 17 controls a rotary apparatus 18 to rotate the cylinder 8 for the purpose of ink jet recording or to stop the same for the purpose of waiting for recording and the presence of the air stream of an ink particle flying part is detected by the presence of the rotation of said cylinder 8. On the basis of the detection result, a control unit 16 operates a pressure pump and a recovery pump 5 during the operation of an ink jet recording apparatus and controls a pump 13 so that the ink 16 in a tank 1 is recirculated to a recirculation system and a diluent 15 is added to the tank 1 from a tank 14 in quantity according to the diluent addition quantity order from the control unit 17. By this method, the proper control of ink viscosity can be performed. |
