PURPOSE:A cyclodextrin clathrate substance, obtained by coexistence of cyclodextrin or derivative thereof and surfactant in a process for extracting a crude drug or herb medicine and capable of preventing loss of active ingredients of the crude drug or herb medicine. CONSTITUTION:A clathrate substance containing active ingredients of a crude drug or herb medicine included in cyclodextrin or a derivative thereof. Although an essence derived from an extract or powder, granule or tablet prepared by drying the extract has been used as a substitute for a decoction of the crude drug or herb medicine, the composition components are different between the decoction and the extract. The coexistence of the cyclodextrin, e.g. alpha- cyclodextrin, and a surfactant, e.g. alkyl or alkenyl sulfate having 10-20C alkyl or alkenyl, in an extraction process eliminates loss of the active ingredients of the crude drug or herb medicine and drug efficacy similar to that of the decoction can be expected. |
