PURPOSE:To attain an adjustment with high accuracy by a simplified constitution, by adjusting the direction of an image at one unit reading column, using a turning mirror. CONSTITUTION:Since the image 2' of a unit reading column 2 is formed on the photodetecting plane of an optical detector 6, and the optical detector 6 consists of a line sensor in which plural photodetectors are arranged in a columnar shape, the accurate reading can not be obtained until the adjustment is performed so as to coincide the direction (a') and (b') of the images 2' with the arranging direction of the photodetectors. At this time, the above adjustment is performed by a half mirror 4. The half mirror 4 is formed as the turning mirror capable of turning around a turning axis XX', and the turning axis XX' is positioned at a twisted state against the column forming direction (ab) of the unit reading column 2. So that the image 2' formed on the optical detector 6 by turning the half mirror 4 around the turning axis XX', changes in the direction shown in broken line, the adjustment is completed by fixing the half mirror at the position where the image 2' coincides with the direction of the line sensor.
