PURPOSE:To speed up the KANJI(Chinese character) code retrieval of inputted KANJI by storing a KANJI code table and reading a part concerned out of the stored KANJI code table when data required for reading KANJI and a specific code among KANJI codes corresponding to said KANJI. CONSTITUTION:Where the specified number of strokes in one and two, an operator depressed a ten-key 2a, a * key 2k, a ten-key 2b and a setting key 23. A CPU 1 reads the KANJIs with one stroke and two strokes and corresponding KANJI codes from a JIS KANJI code table memory part 9, and stores them, after which the CPU 1 reads data stored in a RAM 6 and outputs it to a recording part 7 through a recording control part 8. A JIS KANJI code table showing the KANJIs with one stroke and two strokes and corresponding KANJI codes is outputted from the recording part 7.
