PURPOSE:To always permit the exact observation of the inside of a refining furnace for every heating by inserting and supporting an observation device body which consists of a protective cooling pipe and an objective lens mounted to the top end of an optical fiber inserted into said pipe into the refining furnace through the throat in such a manner that said body can be tilted. CONSTITUTION:The observation device for the inside of the refining furnace is constituted of the observation device body 22 inserted into the refining furnace 21 through the throat and a supporting device to support said body tiltably. The observation device body 22 is constituted of the optical fiber 23 inserted into the protective cooling pipe 24, the objective lens 25 mounted to the top end thereof, protective glass 27 for said lens, a display device 26 for displaying the output taken out by the optical fiber 23 in the form of an image and a controller 28 for the same, a VTR 29, etc. The always exact observation of the furnace inside is thus executed by properly tilting the observation device body 22 to change the observation position in the vertical direction even if the position in the vertical direction of the reaction in the furnace changes.
