Consequently, an interface means 103 discriminates whether materials 1 are only reproducing type, recording and erasing type, logical address-physical address correspondence type, or the like when the medium 11 is loaded to a drive 105. This information is transferred to an interface means 102, and the means 102 executes the recording and reproducing of materials 1 after setting an information transfer route, a recording format, etc., in accordance with this information. Thus, the file management and the compatibility of the recording materials are easily obtained.
