PURPOSE:To quickly execute a partial elimination of a ruled line by a simple operation, by making information of a ruled line table ineffective, when all rules lines are within a designated range, and rewriting the position information of an end point of a ruled line part to a column digit position in the outside of the range, when a part of the rules lines is within the designated range. CONSTITUTION:First of all, in a range for eliminating a block of a ruled line, a cursor is positioned at a start point SP of its rectangle, and an instruction for eliminating the ruled line is executed by an intrinsic key on a keyboard 1. Subsequently, the cursor is moved to an end point EP, and an execution key is depressed. As a result, a block elimination mode of the ruled line and a column/digit number of the start point/end point of its range are inputted to an editing function part 3 through a keyboard control part 2. The function part 3 sets input information to a ruled line eliminating range storage element 8, and subsequently, compares the ruled line table 7 and the column/digit number of the start point/end point, reads out ruled line information from the table 7, and in case of a horizontal ruled line, if a line number is in a range and both a digit start point and a digit end point are in a range, its ruled line is eliminated. Also, if one of them is within the range, the line to the outside of its range is effective, and the inside of the range is eliminated. A vertical ruled line is processed in the same way.
