Automatic cut off lathe comprising a tail stock 1 and a cut off tool support 2. The tail stock 1 and the tool support 2 can both move axially on an individual slide. For equal bulk this lathe allows the production of components which are twice as long as those which can be produced on lathes with moving tail stocks and, for the same cutting speed and chips (swarf), its production is greater. <IMAGE>
