The invention relates to an ultrasonic probe for detecting defects, of the type capable of being inserted into a tube. This probe comprises centring units 3 attached to a body 2 for detection of defects and capable of making contact with the annular surface of the tube 1 to be probed, by being attached to guide rods 4; each centring unit 3 is formed from two elements so that when the pressure of a fluid flowing in the tube is applied to some of the elements of the units 3, the latter slide along the rods 4 and expand or contract circumferentially along cutouts made in them and at each of which the elements of each unit 3 overlap.
