PURPOSE:To stabilize fermentation process for the production of acetone and butanol, by keeping a butanol-producing strain in resting state, adding a carbon source to the cell to effect the production of acetone and butanol in a short time, recovering and concentrating the butanol-producing strain, subjecting to the heat shock and adding to a fermentation tank. CONSTITUTION:In the fermentative production of acetone and butanol, a fermentation tank is separated into a main fermentation tank 5 and a resting tank 6 connected in series and the resting tank 6 is supplied with a culture liquid scarcely containing a carbon source as a fermentation substrate. A carbon source is charged to the resting tank 6, a part of culture liquid extracted from the resting tank 6 is concentrated and the recovered microbial cell is introduced into the main fermentation tank 5 after heat shock. The butanol concentration can be maintained at 20(W/V)% (increased from conventional level by about 30%) and the continuation of the stable operation of the fermentation process can be remarkably improved by this process. Accordingly, the inoculation amount of the butanol-producing strain can be decreased corresponding thereto and the operation of the reaction process can be simplified. |
