PURPOSE:To prevent breakage of bulbs at bridged parts, by providing spacers among glass bulbs to support three or more of them when a discharge path is formed through the three or more glass bulbs arranged in parallel. CONSTITUTION:Four parallel straight tube type bulbs 1a to 1d, whose inside walls are coated with a fluorescent film, are joined to form a double U-shape with three bridging parts 2a(s) and 2b, so as to make one meandering discharge path between the electrodes, thus a compact type fluorescent lamp 1 is constituted. In this case, spacers 5 are provided which have approximately the same thermal expansion coefficient and heat conductivity as the bulb 1, and are formed into cross-shape so as to come into contact with adjoining peripheral faces of the bulbs 1a to 1d. And the spacers are installed among the bulbs prior to the sealing of the stems 3a and 3b so that the bulbs' relative movement and mispositioning can be avoided. Thus, breakage of the bulbs at bridging parts 2a 2b is prevented and an manufacturing can be facilitated.
