PURPOSE:To speed up the measurement with a simplified chemical analysis operation, by enabling the measurement of the quantity of reflected light from one reference density plate and that from the other reference density plate during the movement of slide holding member. CONSTITUTION:After a reference density plate 50 having a reference white plate 50W and a reference black plate 50B is mounted thereon 17, the slide holding plate 17 is moved over a receiving plate 20 and the reference density plate 50 and a chemical analysis slide 60 are sent to a density measuring section sequentially to perform a chemical analysis. The receiving plate 20 by is provided with position sensors 51 and 52 to separately detect stop positions of the holding plate 17 which arranges the white plate 50W as reference density plate farther from the slide 60 set in a slide setting hole 41 and the slide 60 at the density measuring section. Then, a control circuit is provided to sample an output from a quantity of light measuring means at the density measuring section as quantity of light measuring signal of the black plate 50B as closer reference plate close to the slide 60 when neither the sensor 51 or 52 outputs the detection signal. This enables automatic measurement of the density of the black plate 50B during the feeding of the slide 60 to the density measuring section without once stopping it.
