A narrow-track composite magnetic head uses a material different from that of a slider and a chip core, this also relates to a method of fabricating the head. This magnetic head has a read/write gap, and a chip core formed of a nonmagnetic unit on at least at one side thereof, fixed to a nonmagnetic slider. The method of fabricating the magnetic head comprises the steps of forming a number of oblique grooves in a block of ferromagnetic material, embedding nonmagnetic units in the grooves, then forming grooves so as to shape at least two structures with a U-shaped cross-section, which are bonded together facing each other via a nonmagnetic gap. Each nonmagnetic unit is cut off the block at the center of an embedded position, thereby forming chip cores which are fixed to sliders formed with notches. |
