The invention relates to a rotary atomiser intended especially for spraying paints. It comprises a non-conducting rotor 17 mounted so as to rotate inside a casing 12, on an axial tube 20 for supplying paint to a paint-spraying disc or dish 14. An air turbine 30 turns the rotor 17. The casing 12 is traversed by a high-voltage electrical path connected electrically to one or more electrodes 50 for applying electrostatic charges. Compressed air is used as a bearing between the rotor and the casing and between the rotor and the tube. The rotor and the casing are preferably made from ceramic. Field of application: electrostatic applications of paints etc.
