摘要 PURPOSE:To obtain the titled substance useful as a raw material for optically active antibiotic substance, in high yield, facilitating the separation from reaction system, by culturing a mold capable of producing (-)-trans-2,3-epoxysuccinic acid while adding ammonia, etc., to the culture liquid so as to keep the pH of the liquid within a specific range. CONSTITUTION:A mold capable of producing (-)-trans-2,3-epoxysuccinic acid, especially a mold forming the above acid at a rate of >=1,000mug/ml [e.g. Aspergillus awamori (1FO 4122), etc.] is cultured in a liquid medium to obtain the objective compound. In the course of cultivation, the culture liquid is added with ammonia, sodium hydroxide or potassium hydroxide so as to keep the pH of the liquid to 5.0-7.5, preferably 6.0-7.0 and the culture is carried out at 20-40 deg.C. After the cultivation, the objective acid is separated from the culture system by filtration, etc. The monoammonium salt of the objective acid, etc., can be easily crystallized by adjusting the filtrate of the culture liquid to 2.0-3.5 pH or thereabout.
