There is provided an optical information recording and reproducing tape (1) suitable for high-capacity image or digital data files and computer external memory. The recording and reproduction of optical information are achieved by scanning the tape (1) with a laser beam aslant at a certain angle theta with respect to the tape running direction (3). The recording tape (1) is capable of densely recording a large amount of optical information, taking advantage of tape's large surface area. There are also provided a method for producing the tape and a method for recording and reproducing information on the tape.
