PURPOSE:To reduce the technical and economical charge for a discharge lamp by providing an auxiliary electrode facing to a main electrode on one end of a luminous tube provided with main electrodes on both ends of the luminous tube and by providing terminals for supplying power to the main electrodes and the auxiliary electrode so that no high voltage pulse is required for starting. CONSTITUTION:In the inside central portion of an outer tube 1 made of quartz a luminous tube 2 made of quartz is inserted, and on both end portions of the said tube 2 main electrodes 3, 3' are provided and on one end portion of the said tube 2 an auxiliary electrode 5 is provided facing to the main electrode 3 respectively. On the both ends of the outer tube 1 bases 6a, 6b are fixed respectively, and on the base 6a on the side of the auxiliary electrode 5 terminals 7 and 8 connected to the main electrode 3 and the auxiliary electrode 5 respectively are provided for supplying power to the respective electrodes. While, on the base 6b provided on the opposite side of the auxiliary electrode 5 two terminals 9, 9 connected to the main electrode 3' are provided for supplying power. When the discharge lamp is lighted an electric source 11 is connected to the power terminals 7, 9 through a stabilizer 10, and a thermister 12 having positive characteristics is connected to the power terminals 8, 9.
