PURPOSE:To minimize shrinkage hole or center segregation, V segregation developed in an ingot and to improve the rolling yield by integrating as enclosing a metallic block by pouring molten metal under condition of arranging the metallic block having the same composition as the molten metal at near the center of upper part of an ingot making mold. CONSTITUTION:At near the center part of upper side of the ingot making mold 12, the metallic block, such as bar-like body 14 having the same kind or the same chemical composition as the molten metal is held as hanging down, and the molten metal in a ladle is poured into the mold 12 from the gap of a supporting body 13 by a top pouring method. And the molten metal is poured to the half height of the metallic block 14 and the lower half of the metallic block 14 is enclosed by the molten metal to obtain the metallic ingot, in which the metallic block 14 is integrated. In this way, comparatively shallow annular groove is formed on the upper face of the ingot and only slight segregation in there is developed, and so at rolling, development of cupping is not occurred and the rolling yield is improved.
