PURPOSE:To reduce exhaust noises in a wide range of frequency, by making a sound absorbing cylinder of a porous material, at a smaller diameter than the tailpipe of an exhaust system, and by holding the sound absorbing cylinder with a prescribed gap in the rear end of the tailpipe. CONSTITUTION:A sound absorbing cylinder 10, which is made of a porous material and has a prescribed length, a high gas permeability and a smaller diameter than a tailpipe 1, is inserted at one end 10A by a predetermined length into the outlet port 1A of the rear end of the tailpipe 1 so that a prescribed gap (e) is maintained between the inside of the tailpipe and the sound absorbing cylinder. The sound absorbing cylinder 10 is elastically supported by a pair of upper and lower securing corrugated metal plates 11 to the tailpipe 1 so that the cylinder is protected from thermal deformation damage and the like. This constitution reduces exhaust noises in a wide range of frequency. |
