METHOD FOR EVALUATING AND TESTING CHARACTERISTIC TO STOP BRITTLE CRACK PROPAGATION

摘要

PURPOSE:To easily evaluate a brittle crack propagation stop characteristic by building up a weld bead to a notch formed to test piece for a Charpy impact test, forming a saw notch to the transverse central part of the bead in the longitudinal direction thereof and subjecting such test piece to the Charpy impact test. CONSTITUTION:The weld bead 2 is built up by TIG welding on the Charpy impact test piece (preferably JIS No.3 or No.4). The saw notch 3 is formed to the transverse central part of the bead 2 in the longitudinal direction thereof. Such test piece is subjected to the Charpy impact test specified in JIS Z 2242 and the fracture transition temp. thereof is measured. The evaluation test of the brittle crack propagation stop characteristic of the test piece is carried out in accordance with the result thereof.
