PURPOSE:To obtain the titled substance useful as an intermediate for chemicals, etc., in high yield at a low temperature keeping catalytic activity at a high level over a long period and enabling the reuse of the catalyst, by reacting vinyl chloride with carbon monoxide and hydrogen in the presence of a rhodium compound, a base, an organic solvent having low solubility in water and water and separating the reaction product from the system. CONSTITUTION:(1) A reaction mixture containing the objective compound is produced by reacting vinyl chloride with carbon monoxide and hydrogen in the presence of a rhodium compound, a base, an organic solvent insoluble or hardly soluble in water (a solvent having lower specific than water, e.g. hexane, heptane, benzene, etc.) and water (at an amount of 0.1-100pts.wt. per 1pt. of the vinyl chloride used as a raw material). (2) The reaction mixture is separated into an aqueous phase and an organic phase. (3) The objective compound is separated from the aqueous phase to lower the concentration of the objective compound in the aqueous phase to <=5wt%. (4) The aqueous phase is subjected to anion exchange treatment after the separation of the objective compound and the obtained regenerated water is recycled to the step (1). |
