PURPOSE:To detect the polar coordinate position of an ultrasonic probe and the direction of oscillating thereof with two wire winding mechanisms. CONSTITUTION:A body 6 incorporating a linear direction detecting section and a direction of rotation detecting section is mounted on an object 1 to be inspected using a magnet 5. To detect the linear direction, the linear direction detecting section checks pulls R1 and R2 of two wires 14 and 15 as caused by two wire winding pulleys and a plate spring not illustrated. To detect the direction of rotation, the body 6 is turned to check the relative rotation theta between the magnet 5 and body 6 with a rotation detector. With the detection of the amount of two wire pulls R1 and R2 and the rotation theta, the detection of the direction alpha of the probe 2 oscillates can be done from the polar coordinate position of the probe 2 and a difference between two wire pulls.
