PURPOSE:To enhance productivity of an ink ribbon and prevent projections from being formed at selvage parts, by cutting a thermoplastic fiber woven fabric coated with an oil-based ink to a predetermined width through fusion. CONSTITUTION:A thermoplastic fiber woven fabric is coated with an oil-based ink, and is then cut to a predetermined width through fusion, thereby obtaining an ink ribbon. The ink has an effect similar to the effect of a plasticizer on thermoplastic fibers, so that an increase in the speed of cutting through fusion can be contrived. As a result, the ink ribbon can be produced at a lower cost. In addition, generation of projections at selvage parts due to a molten material of the fibers, which usually occurs when cutting a uncoated base fabric through fusion, is hardly brought about. Accordingly, the ink can be rolled into a well- shaped roll without getting out of shape due to projections at the selvage parts.
