PURPOSE:To attain the initial setting to a new cassette prior to recording or reproduction by providing a control means which detects the replacement of a cassette and turns on the power for a prescribed time. CONSTITUTION:A system controller 91 consists mainly of a microcomputer or the like and with a cassette loading/ejection switch 70 turned on, the power is applied automatically for a prescribed time. The prescribed time is set to a sufficient time to complete the initializing and the automatic positioning to the unrecording position of a head 5 onto a disk 2 is applied at this time. In operating a cassette ejection switch 120 by the user, the power is turned on for a prescribed time and it is expected that the chucking between a sheet and a motor are released in the process of the next cassette ejection, the motor is braked to stop. Thus, the initial setting and ejection of the cassette is facilitated.
