An improvement to the cooling of, for example, gas turbine blades (2), permitting an improvement in efficiency, is achieved in that a liquid metal is used as cooling fluid. This circulates in a closed circuit (5) inside the rotor (3). The coolant is circulated by electromagnetic means, in that the cooling circuit is provided with a first helical section (51) and induction coils (7) concentrically enclosing this. The heat dissipation from the cooling circuit to its surroundings occurs in a second helical section (52); for this purpose the rotor can be provided with cooling fins (9). <IMAGE>
