The steam, by being conducted transversally through a bed of material, evaporates the moisture in that material, the resulting steam being usable for other purposes. The equipment used comprises a closed chamber with inlet and outlet for drying steam, a feed-in device with cut-off for the undried material, and a feed-in and cut-off for dried material. In the chamber, vertical walls enclosed in conjunction with gables the material to be dried, the walls being at least partly perforated to permit passage of drying steam. At least one of the walls is pivotably suspended in its under part so that after termination of the drying period it can be pivoted outwards to obviate material suspension. This outward movement is by means of a pivoting mechanism connected to a hydraulic piston drive source. The space accommodating the material is upwardly limited by a partly sealing plate, and there is another sealing plate at its bottom. Material which sediments in the drier steam chamber is conducted to the feed-out device along inclined plates. |
