A fuel injection system with continuous intake pipe injection has an air flow measuring element 4 arranged in the intake pipe 1, which element acts on the control piston 7 of a fuel metering valve 6 in order to meter a quantity of fuel proportional to the air quantity flowing through. The metering element 4 is swivelled against a return force, which is generated by the fuel pressure in the chamber 24 acting on the control piston 7. An electric pump 16, which by way of an accumulator 35 delivers fuel into a fuel line 18, from which a control pressure line 21, connected to the chamber 24, branches off by way of a throttle 22, serves for the fuel supply. By varying the pressure in the control pressure line 21 the return force and hence the fuel-air ratio can be adjusted as a function of operating parameters, for example by means of a warm-air regulator 26 between the control pressure line 21 and a return line 28 leading to the fuel tank 17, in which latter line a pressure maintaining valve 27, acted upon by the fuel pressure, is arranged. In order to ensure restarting, especially when the internal combustion engine is still warm, an additional accumulator 36 is provided between the control pressure line 21 and the return line 28, which accumulator is briefly filled with fuel after starting, as a result of which the pressure in the control pressure line 21 and hence in the chamber 24 briefly falls, which ... a stronger deflection of the air flow measuring element 4 and a ...
